Wall Safes

"Wall safes are easily hidden and represent "free" storage space since they tuck into the space between your wall studs. Many folks love the look of them and leave them exposed (some are downright beautiful), but you can easily cover them with a photo, painting or wall-hanging for extra stealth."

Housekeeper coming today? A wall safe works perfectly in this situation. Want to store a handgun away from curious little fingers, but have it ready at a moment's notice? A wall safe tucked securely behind a photograph or in your closet is just what the doctor ordered. Or just need a place to stash all those spare keys? Wall safes come in different sizes and with different types of locks. In addition to the standard mechanical dial locks, electronic locks are very popular for their ease and quick access. This type of lock usually has a key override or external battery pack for backup since the batteries are located on the inside of the safe. V-Line's Quick Vault and Closet Vault have a fast-opening Simplex mechanical pushbutton lock that needs no batteries.

"Fireproof" Wall Safes? Or "Fire Resistant"?

American Security even offers what many call the only fireproof wall safe, but you'll need an extra-deep wall — or a wall with "dead space" behind it — because the safe will stick out further than the standard four-inch thickness of most walls. In addition, it's more accurate to call this safe fire resistant, since "fireproof" means completely impervious to fire, and no safe can withstand the hottest fires for unlimited lengths of time. That said, this Amsec is built like a tank, far tougher than the typical wall safe.
