Ever wanted a secure handgun safe that you could easily carry to the range?
Typical handgun safes of this nature are bulky, heavy and simply not practical for taking to the range.
Imagine if you could own a handgun safe that is easily portable and offers fantastic security.
By brilliantly placing a stunning chrome handle on the front of the safe and slightly reducing the steel gauge from its heavy duty counterpart, the Stealth Portable Handgun Safe is the perfect portable pistol box.
This handgun safe features the easy to use, tried and true, Simplex Mechanical Lock, with 1,081 unique combinations and no batteries or unreliable biometric scanners to worry about.
The body and door of this pistol box is constructed of 14 gauge solid steel with the door having an inch overlap to add additional pry resistance. Once open you'll notice the 1-1/2" chrome locking bolt and protective steel housing behind the lock that really separates this handgun safe from its competitors providing protection from punch attacks.
Once the safe is open, you'll notice the two massive steel hooks that lock underneath the two solid steel dead bars. This provides an incredible amount of pry resistance.
For protection of your firearm, Stealth added high density pluck foam that fits the exact size and shape of your pistol.
With four pre-drilled bolt down holes located in the bottom of the safe, you'll have no trouble securing this box to any surface you choose.
This safe is finished in a tactical stealth black and comes standard with a 1 year limited warranty.

Everything is good so far. This safe is for keeping little hands from accessing your gun when you're not carrying it. It is not going to keep someone from stealing it even when bolted down, if they are persistent and have the right tools.
If you practice, just like you should with handling your gun, you can open this in the dark in just a couple of seconds.
When I first researched this it was 10 ga. steel, now only 14, but still well built. Combo is easy to change. Tried it several times before and after closing (empty). Has good security features at the hinges and a steel block in the front of the lid. Careful not to pull on the thin piece of foam inside the lid. It can tear easily. Also has pre-drilled mounting holes. Rotating handle is great!
Highly recommend Deansafe. Shipped out quickly, and well packaged.
Chose the Stealth PS1208EZ mainly because it was the right size and it had a Simplex Push Button Lock. I own a Fort Knox Pistol Safe with a Simplex Lock and love it, but the one I have was too big for the space I have, so I chose the Stealth. The Stealth is a well made sturdy safe, however the one I received had a defective locking mechanism. I contacted Dean Safe they tried to trouble shoot the problem over the phone but the lock was defective. They sent me a shipping label for the return and I am waiting for a refund, at which point I will purchase another safe from them. Probably a smaller version of the Fort Knox safe I already have. I will let you know how it all works out.
Very secure and well made. Much appreciated!!!
The safe for my Glock is just what I wanted. However, things did not go very smoothly. I ordered the StealthPS1208EZ Portable Safe and was sent a totally different safe. I called Dean Safe and they took care of it right away. I got a return label the next day and returned the wrong safe and then received the correct safe one day later. I ordered the Snapsafe LED Motion Sensor Lights with my original purchase and they were AWOL. I called Dean again and they sent me the lights 3 days later. The lights don't work very well. Sometimes they go on and sometimes they don't. Disappointing:( Considering returning them for and exchange. The customer service was very good as both times I called they were very helpful and wanted to make things right. The safe is worth 5 stars but the hassle drops this review to 3 stars
These are NOT intended to keep your gun from being stolen, it's why it's called PORTABLE gun safe, it's a medium duty security for your gun, mostly to keep kids out yet you can access the gun fast in the middle of the night without having to stumble around for a key, or with combination in the dark, or hope the biometric thing works on the first try. So I have read other reviews, most were good, but the ones that were just so so were from people who thought that such a safe should be completely break in resistant, that's just not practical, if you could get a safe like that it would have to weigh 50 pounds in order to have enough armored hardened thick steel around it to prevent an angle grinder attack, and several large round bolts that would lock the door so well that no pry tool could get it to open, well then it's not portable any more if you built it like that.
So this safe serves my purposes very well, I didn't want something large but it was the only one of this size range that would fit my S&W 686 that was 10 1/2 inches long from barrel end to handle end. It could easily hold two smaller guns, or I could put in a real small gun with my 686 inside. Right now it has my 686, a box of 50 carts, two speed loaders loaded, the holster, and small bag of earplugs. If my wife decides to get a small gun all I have to do remove the box of ammo and I would have the room.
The other thing I liked about the safe is I chose whatever combination of buttons I want to push, and setting that up was very easy to do, but you need to follow the directions closely, and you need to test it after your done WITHOUT closing the lid at least 3 times so you know the thing will lock and unlock with your new combo, failure to do that and you could lock your gun in the safe and the combo not work, then you'll have a problem. Just follow the directions and you'll be good to go. I had a bit of problem with the learning curve on this type of lock because I've never had a lock like this before, but it only took about 5 minutes to figure it out, so it's not tough to do. Just make sure you test your new combo several times before you close the door by locking it and unlocking it 3 times.
I did a lot of research on these types of things, and the one thing I decided was I didn't want a round key lock anywhere on the box, those things can be defeated with a Bic pen! Plus I didn't want to have to try to find a key and insert the key into the lock in the dark. I also knew I didn't want a combination lock with wheel that I would have to spin back and forth trying to read numbers in the dark. And I discovered after thinking I wanted one, was that biometric safes can be finicky, more times than not you have to apply your finger more than once; and these biometric things are all coming out of China and they're not very accurate for detecting your finger at all, plus there's the issue of the power not working either from the AC end or the battery end. So this safe uses a very simply but extremely reliable completely mechanical KABA Simplex locking system. The Simplex system has an interesting history, just read Wikipedia about it sometime, but it has its mathematical roots way back in 1886; anyway they came out as locks in 1963 for hospitals and other high security places, and are still in use today in various buildings all over the world because they are extremely reliable and it they do the job.
Sorry for the long rant, but this is a safe you should seriously consider for your portable needs, and or keeping kids from getting to your gun and have someone accidently shot and killed.
Dean Safe was also very nice on the phone explaining some questions I had; in addition to that they sent the safe free and I got it in 4 days.
Side note: I ordered the LED red light device, it comes on automatically when I open the safe so you can see in the dark inside the safe, great product but it has one weakness...the included magnets are not strong enough to hold the light onto the metal and it simply slides down. This product came from China so you know something like that had to happen, but the light does work, comes on automatically and shuts off automatically, so what to do about the darn magnet thing I screamed? I called Dean Safe and the rep there told be to buy some double sided tape and attach it that way, that's great except for one thing, when the batteries die you'll have to tear the double sided tape thing off and it can be quite a bother and could damage the light, plus you don't want to put the tape, or the magnet, over the battery door, so instead of tape I got stick on velcro tape instead, just put a piece long enough to cover the length of the light BUT NOT covering the battery door, then put the other tape on the inside of the box and then the light will stay in place and be removed anytime you need to remove it.
In conclusion, I'm very happy with the safe, it was a wise decision to go with Stealth safe and with Dean ...
